Bridal details: how a headpiece can take your look to a whole new level.

Bridal trends change from year to year, but pretty headpieces that act like jewelry for the hair have proven to the test of time and remain popular with brides today.

Over the years, I've seen hundreds of hairpieces, each one a little different than the last.  All lovely additions help complete the look.  But every once in a while, I'm stopped in my tracks by the way a piece can transform a look and take it to a whole new level.

My recent bride, Jen, did just that with her bridal headpiece and the results were so amazing, I couldn't help but share.

Here is a little behind-the-scenes access to show how putting a slight twist on an accessory can take an already elegant updo hairstyle and turn it into  pure magic on your big day.

Jen had a blue theme running through her wedding and decided to have Kata Banko Couture create a custom headpiece in one of their most popular styles (10:37 Crown) made from lapis and moonstone.  It was magical.  Truly a work of art.

Jen also had an idea on how to wear this beautiful piece a little differently than a traditional crown.

Have you ever taken a headband and turned it around and worn it on the back of your head? (If not, I highly recommend the cool, boho look it will give you for a summer concert or even a formal event.)  Essentially, that's exactly how we created Jen's ethereal bridal style. We positioned the crown on the back of the head and wove her hair through the embellishments to create a one-of-a-kind updo.

Jen's photographer, Rachel Rowland, was there to capture the whole thing.

Check out her amazing behind-the-scenes photos of our getting ready process.

The end result was truly magical and so unique.
